  1.  World Refugee Day is being observed globally on 20th June 2025. This international day is designated by the United Nations to honour refugees of whole world. The day honours the strength and courage of people who have been forced to flee their home country to escape conflict or persecution. The theme for this year is “Solidarity with Refugees”, which urges people to move beyond words and take meaningful steps to support those forced to flee.
  2. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has congratulated top Indian Chess player Divya Deshmukh on defeating the World No. 1, Hou Yifan, in the 2nd leg of the Blitz semifinal at the World Team Blitz Championships in London.
  3. The Election Commission of India (ECI) has launched a new Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) aimed at delivering Elector Photo Identity Cards (EPICs) within 15 days of electoral roll updates. This initiative is backed by a robust IT system and SMS alerts.
  4. The annual Kailash Mansarovar Yatra has begun from Nathula of Sikkim. Governor Om Prakash Mathur flagged off the first batch of 36 pilgrims to enter into the Tibet Autonomous region.
  5. Anuradha Thakur who is a senior IAS officer of the 1994 batch has been appointed to the SEBI Board. She will replace Ajay Seth who will retire on 30 June 2025. Anuradha Thakur who also assumes the role of Economic Affairs Secretary. she becomes the first woman to ever hold the position .

  7. Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah announced that NAFED will soon begin direct procurement from farmers to eliminating intermediaries from the agricultural production process. He was speaking at a national seminar held in Mumbai on the occasion of the International Year of Cooperatives.
  8. In a major boost to India–UK academic collaboration, Queen’s University Belfast (QUB) has appointed Prof M Satish Kumar as the first Dean of its upcoming campus in Gujarat International Finance Tec-City (GIFT City).
  9. Prime Minister Narendra Modi officially flagged off India’s first indigenous locomotive export to Guinea on June 20, 2025. This marks a major step in India’s growing role in the global railway equipment market. The locomotive was built at the Marhowrah rail factory in Bihar.
  10. The Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) has appointed Professor Anantha Chandrakasan as its next Provost, making him the first Indian-born academician to hold the prestigious position. A pioneer in electrical engineering and computer science, Chandrakasan will take charge on 1 July 2025.
  11. India and Ukraine convened their first-ever Joint Working Group meeting on agriculture which mark a new phase of bilateral engagement in the farm sector. Held virtually, the dialogue led by senior agricultural officials which focused on promoting technology sharing and research collaboration.
  12. Pakistan has signed a $1 billion syndicated financing facility backed by the Asian Development Bank (ADB). Structured with both Islamic and conventional tranches, this five-year facility reflects renewed confidence in Pakistan’s fiscal reforms and macroeconomic recovery. The transaction marks Pakistan’s re-entry into the Middle Eastern financial market after over two years and includes major banks such as Dubai Islamic Bank, Standard Chartered, and Abu Dhabi Islamic Bank.
  13. Iran’s recent military operation, Operation True Promise 3, marks a critical stage in its confrontation with Israel, as it carried out missile strikes on key urban and energy infrastructure. Directed by the IRGC, this strike serves as a retaliation for Israeli attacks on Iranian military.
  14. United Nations General Assembly has designated 2026 as the International Year of the Woman Farmer. The initiative seeks to highlight and support the indispensable role of women in food systems worldwide.
  15. India’s javelin star Neeraj Chopra has won the Paris Diamond League title thanks to his first throw of 88.16 metres. Neeraj led the event from the first heave of the night, despite having three “no marks” in the middle. While there was no 90m throw at Paris, Neeraj did manage to beat Germany’s Julian Weber, who had trumped him at the Doha Diamond League event in May 2025 and then the Janusz Kusocinski Memorial event. Webesr’s best throw of the night was a 87.88m effort.
