- World Population Day is observed every year on July 11 to raise awareness about population issues. In 2025, the focus is on empowering young people to plan their families in a fair and hopeful world. This year also marks a milestone as the global population crosses 8.1 billion, with India becoming the most populous country.
- Joint Parliamentary Committee on ‘One Nation One Election’ held a meeting at Parliament House in New Delhi. The 39 member committee comprises 27 Members from the Lok Sabha and 12 Members from Rajya Sabha. The meeting was a part of the broader exercise to examine the Constitution (129th Amendment) Bill, 2024, and the Union Territories Laws (Amendment) Bill, 2024, which aim to enable simultaneous elections to the Lok Sabha and State Assemblies.
- The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology launched a whitepaper titled Transitioning to Quantum Cyber Readiness in New Delhi. It guides organisations on how to start moving towards quantum-safe security. The paper also suggests practical steps to update current systems without disrupting operations or breaking compliance rules.
- Union Minister for Coal and Mines G Kishan Reddy emphasised the vital role of language in preserving culture and heritage at the 50-year celebration of Raj Bhasha ‘Dakshin Samvad’ in Hyderabad.
- Heavy Industries Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy launched a scheme to incentivise electric trucks (e-trucks) under the PM E-DRIVE Scheme. This is the first time that the government has launched support for electric trucks to help the country’s transition to clean and sustainable freight mobility.
- Maharashtra government declared Sarvajanik Ganeshotsav as an official state festival. The announcement was made by Cultural Affairs Minister Ashish Shelar during the Legislative Assembly session.
- National Education Society for Tribal Students (NESTS) and UNICEF India launched TALASH, a new program to support the education and personal growth of tribal students. The initiative will help students studying in Eklavya Model Residential Schools (EMRSs) across 28 states and 8 union territories. It aims to build self-confidence, life skills, and guide students in choosing the right careers.
- DRDO and Indian Air Force successfully test-fire Beyond Visual Range Air-to-Air Astra Missile in Odisha.
- The Indian Coast Guard (ICG) carried out a rescue operation for the U.S. sailing vessel Sea Angel, which was stranded about 52 nautical miles southeast of Indira Point, Andaman & Nicobar Islands. The yacht which was carrying two crew members, was disabled amid extremely rough conditions due to a blown sail and an entangled propeller.
- Kumar Mangalam Birla Joins US-India Business Forum Board. Kumar Mangalam Birla, Chairman of the Aditya Birla Group, was appointed to the Executive Committee of the US-India Strategic Partnership Forum (USISPF).
- UNESCO removed three important heritage sites in Madagascar, Egypt, and Libya from its World Heritage in Danger List. This happened during the 47th session of the World Heritage Committee in Paris.
- India has bagged the hosting rights of two world-class shooting events. The combined World Cup will be held in 2027 and the Junior World Championships in 2028. The International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF) awarded the rights.
- Sprinter Animesh Kujur of Chhattisgarh has created a new national record by completing the 100 meters race in 10.18 seconds in the Dromia International Sprint Meet held in Greece. Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnudev Sai has congratulated Animesh on this achievement.
