01. The Waqf (Amendment) Act, 2025, has come into effect from 08April 2025. The government has issued a notification to this effect following the assent given by President Droupadi Murmu to the legislation.
2. PM Modi interacted with beneficiaries of Pradhan Mantri Mudra Yojana at his residence in New Delhi on the 10th anniversary of the scheme. The Pradhan Mantri Mudra Yojana provides collateral-free loans of up to 20 lakh rupees to micro and small enterprises.
3. The government has issued notification to the Electronics Component Manufacturing Scheme. Recently the Union Cabinet had approved this Scheme with a funding of 22,919 crore rupees to make India Atmanirbhar in electronics supply chain.
4. The Odisha Government signed 13 Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) with the Union Petroleum and Natural Gas Ministry at the Odisha Investors’ Meet in New Delhi. Under the MoUs, Odisha will receive investments totaling over 8,96,000crore rupees.
5. The Kerala state government has approved the ropeway project connecting Wayanad and Kozhikode districts. The 3.675-kilometre-long ropeway that connects Lakkidi with Adivaram will be the longest in South India.
6. Under the PM e-Bus Sewa-Payment Security Mechanism (PSM) scheme, three states, namely Gujarat, Telangana and Karnataka, have placed requests with the Centre for 15,000 electric buses (e-buses) at a subsidised price. India aims to deploy 50,000 e-buses by 2030, with a focus on nine major cities and seven states — Gujarat, Telangana, Karnataka, Delhi, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu and West Bengal — under the National Electric Bus Program (NEBP), which was launched in 2022.
7. Padma Shri Ram Sahay Pandey, a legendary figure in Rai folk dance, passed away at 92 after a prolonged illness. He died in a private hospital in Sagar, Madhya Pradesh.
8. The Supreme Court ruled that Tamil Nadu Governor R.N. Ravi acted “illegal and erroneous” by reserving 10 bills, re-adopted by the state assembly, for the President’s approval.
9. The Department of Financial Services in the Finance Ministry has notified amalgamation of 26 Regional Rural Banks, (RRBs) on the principles of “One State One RRB”. This is the fourth phase of amalgamation of RRBs.
10. AWWA has undergone a major change itself as Army Women’s Welfare Association. A functionary body of the Indian Army, it was earlier called Army Wives Welfare Association. AWWA, registered as a Welfare Society with the Registrar of Societies Delhi Administration in 1966, changed its name on April 2.
11. PM Modi met Crown Prince of Dubai, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defence of UAE, Sheikh Hamdan Bin Mohammed Al Maktoum in New Delhi. The two leaders discussed ways to further strengthen the India-UAE Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.
12. President Smt Droupadi Murmu arrived in the Slovakian capital, Bratislava, in the early morning today after concluding her successful state visit to Portugal. The president’s visit to Portugal was the first state visit to Portugal in 27 years, marking a significant milestone in diplomatic relations.
13. In the Dominican Republic, at least 66 people have been killed, including a provincial governor, after the roof of a famous nightclub in the capital, Santo Domingo, collapsed. The catastrophe has left at least 150 people injured.
14. The second day of the Annual Investment Meeting Congress (AIM Congress 2025) kicked off at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre, as the premier global platform continues to facilitate crucial dialogues on foreign direct investment and economic cooperation. The three-day event, which began on 07 Apr will continue till April 9.
15. Bangladesh has inked the ‘Artemis Accords’ as the 54th country with the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), focused on non-military space exploration.
16. In shooting, Vijayveer Sidhu has become the first Indian to win gold in the men’s 25-meter rapid fire pistol event of the ISSF World Cup in Buenos Aires, Argentina. In the women’s category Suruchi Singh claimed her maiden gold in the 10-meter air pistol event. The double golds put India on top of the medals tally with four gold, one silver and a bronze.
