- The Banking Laws (Amendment) Act, 2025 came into effect on 1 August 2025, enforcing 9 key provisions out of 19. It raises the “substantial interest” limit from ₹5 lakh to ₹2 crore, allowing better governance. The Act extends non-executive directors’ tenure in cooperative banks from 8 to 10 years. It authorizes public sector banks (PSBs) to transfer unclaimed dividends and bond proceeds to the Investor Education and Protection Fund (IEPF) and permits PSBs to directly pay statutory auditors to improve audit quality.
- Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta launched a mass cleanliness drive, ‘Delhi Ko Koode Se Azadi campaign’, in the national capital.
- Union Minister Nitin Gadkari received the 43rd Lokmanya Tilak National Award in Pune on 1 August 2025. The Lokmanya Tilak Smarak Trust presented the award for his notable contributions to national development and infrastructure. The award carries a citation, memento, and ₹1 lakh cash prize. Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis, Deputy CMs Eknath Shinde and Ajit Pawar, and ex-Home Minister Sushilkumar Shinde attended the event. Gadkari lauded Tilak’s ideals and urged leaders to speak truthfully for good governance.
- Delhi’s HoHo (Hop-On Hop-Off) bus service is set to resume after a pandemic-induced hiatus, but with a new name and updated routes. The service, which allows tourists to explore the city’s attractions at their own pace, will be relaunched with fresh branding and potentially new routes to cater to a wider range of tourist interests.
- IPS officer Sonali Mishra, from the 1993 batch (Madhya Pradesh cadre), took charge as the Director General of the Railway Protection Force (RPF) on 1 August 2025. She became the first woman to lead the 143-year-old force. The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet approved her term until 31 October 2026. With over 30 years of service in MP Police, BSF, CBI, and a UN mission, she earned the President’s Police Medal and Police Medal for Meritorious Service. Her appointment marks a major step toward gender equality in policing.
- Senior scientist of the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) A. Rajarajan will take over as the new director of the Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre (VSSC) from Friday (August 1).

08. The Indian Coast Guard began constructing its first indigenously designed Air Cushion Vehicle (ACV) at Chowgule & Company Pvt. Ltd., Goa. The girder laying ceremony marked the project’s launch. The ACVs, based on Griffon Hoverwork designs, will enhance speed, agility, and shallow-water operations. Under the Aatmanirbhar Bharat initiative, the Ministry of Defence signed a ₹387.44 crore contract in October 2024 to procure six such vessels for maritime security.
09. Bihar CM Nitish Kumar unveiled the mascot “Shubhankar” and logo for the Asia Rugby U 20 Championship. The tournament will be held in Rajgir on 9–10 August 2025. Nine teams, including India, China, UAE, and Sri Lanka, will participate. The Bihar cabinet approved ₹4.08 crore to host the event. The CM said the event will inspire youth.
The United States (US) has reduced its tariff rate on goods from Bangladesh to 20 per cent, a significant reduction from the previous 35 per cent, after a final round of intense negotiations in Washington.
