  1. Parliament has passed the Bills of Lading Bill, 2025, with Rajya Sabha approving it today. Lok Sabha has cleared it in March. The bill modernizes the legal framework for shipping documents, promoting smoother maritime trade. It replaces the outdated Indian Bills of Lading Act, 1856. It introduced with provisions for electronic bills, boosting efficiency, transparency, and global alignment in shipping practices.
  2. Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar resigned on Monday evening, citing health reasons and medical advice. He had assumed office in August 2022 and was set to serve until 2027. His resignation, accepted by President Droupadi Murmu which came on the first day of Parliament’s Monsoon Session. As Rajya Sabha Chairman, his exit triggers a new Vice Presidential election within six months.
  3. The Assam government has introduced a subsidy scheme offering Rs 5 per litre of milk to dairy farmers. This initiative aims to increase milk production and improve farmers’ incomes.
  4. Gujarat has launched India’s first Tribal Genome Sequencing Project to enhance healthcare for tribal communities. The project uses genetic research to detect hereditary diseases early and develop personalised treatments. Scientists will collect and analyse genome data from tribal populations. This initiative marks a major step in using advanced medical science to address the unique health needs of tribal groups.
  5. India’s creative industry got a major boost as the first campus of the Indian Institute of Creative Technology (IICT) opened in Mumbai. The institute aims to strengthen India’s role in the global AVGC-XR sector—Animation, Visual Effects, Gaming, Comics, and Extended Reality. It will train industry-ready talent through top-tier courses and international collaborations, driving innovation and growth.
  6. Former Kerala Chief Minister and veteran CPM leader VS Achuthanandan passed away yesterday after a prolonged illness and hospitalisation in Thiruvananthapuram. The 101 year old leader had been on ventilator support in a private hospital in the city for the last two weeks.
  7.  The Supreme Court of India is set to hear a presidential reference under Article 143 on 22 July 2025. This follows its April 8 verdict that fixed a three-month deadline for the President to act on Bills reserved by Governors. The reference was made by President Droupadi Murmu seeking the Court’s advisory opinion on timelines for assent to state Bills.
  8. Garden Reach Shipbuilders and Engineers (GRSE) launched Yard 3034 “Ajay” on 21 July 2025 in Kolkata, in the presence of Vice Admiral Kiran Deshmukh. Ajay is the eighth and final Anti-Submarine Warfare Shallow Water Craft. It Equipped with advanced sonar, torpedoes, and weapons. The vessel boosts coastal defence and showcases India’s push for defence self-reliance with over 80% indigenous content.
  9.  Russia has offered India joint research and development of the next-generation PAKDA (Prospective Aviation Complex for Long-Range Aviation). It is designed to be a futuristic, subsonic, radar-evading strategic bomber, capable of carrying both conventional and nuclear payloads for advanced strategic aviation cooperation.
  10. India has begun talks with global satellite imagery providers to boost real-time surveillance and military readiness. The move comes after reports confirmed that China gave Pakistan live satellite intelligence during Operation Sindoor in May 2025. By integrating high-resolution, real-time imagery into its defence systems, India aims to enhance strategic awareness and respond swiftly to emerging threats.
  11. India continued its upward trajectory in international academic excellence by securing the 7th position at the 66th International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO) 2025 which held in Sunshine Coast, Australia. Competing against 110 countries, the Indian team of six participants earned three gold, two silver, and one bronze medal. It created  a national record by scoring of 193 out of 252.
  12. India will pioneer Japan’s next-gen E10 Shinkansen bullet train outside of Japan . It may rollout on the Mumbai–Ahmedabad high‑speed corridor in the early 2030s. Until then, India will conduct trials using E5 Shinkansen sets starting in 2026 to study performance under local dust and heat. The E10, with a top speed of 400 km/h and advanced safety features which reflects deep India–Japan rail collaboration.
  13.  India will host the Chess World Cup 2025 which is scheduled to be held from 30th of October to 27th of November.
