1. India becomes Partner Country at Gulfood 2026 in Dubai

Dubai’s Gulfood 2026, the world’s largest annual food and beverage exhibition, is hosting India as Partner Country for the first time. Running from 26–30 January 2026, the event spans two mega venues. India features 161 exhibitors, a doubled pavilion size, and APEDA’s Bharati Pavilion, showcasing export-ready agri-food and agri-tech startups, reflecting India’s expanding global agri-export footprint.

2. Steps initiated to include Mizo language in Eighth Schedule

The Mizoram Government has accelerated efforts to include the Mizo language in the Eighth Schedule of the Constitution. Chief Minister Lalduhoma reviewed progress with the Mizo Language Development Board’s study group, which reported overwhelming public support. Consequently, a task group will resubmit a comprehensive proposal to the Centre for final approval.

3. Indian Army signs MoU with IISc Bengaluru on AI system development

The Indian Army signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bengaluru, to develop an indigenous Artificial Intelligence-based system. The collaboration will address emerging digital information challenges and strengthen defence innovation. Therefore, the initiative reinforces India’s self-reliance in next-generation defence technologies.

4. Namsai-Pangsau PowerDrive 2026 begins in Arunachal Pradesh

The two-day Namsai-Pangsau PowerDrive 2026 motorsport event commenced at Namsai with the theme “Daring to Push Boundaries, Celebrating Culture.” Organised under the Federation of Motor Sports Clubs of India, it aims to promote Arunachal Pradesh as a hub for adventure tourism and international motorsports.

5. Parakram Diwas 2026 celebrations begin in Andaman & Nicobar

The Ministry of Culture launched Parakram Diwas 2026 in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands to mark Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose’s 129th birth anniversary. Celebrations across 14 locations include cultural programmes, exhibitions and National School of Drama performances, thereby honouring Bose’s legacy of courage, sacrifice and patriotism.

6. PM Modi and Brazilian President Lula reaffirm strategic partnership

Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a telephone conversation with Brazilian President Lula da Silva to reaffirm the India–Brazil Strategic Partnership. The leaders reviewed progress in trade, defence, technology, energy and agriculture cooperation. Moreover, they stressed reformed multilateralism and agreed to enhance people-to-people ties in the coming year.

1. President inaugurates Granth Kutir at Rashtrapati Bhavan

President Droupadi Murmu inaugurated the Granth Kutir at Rashtrapati Bhavan to preserve India’s classical literary heritage. The Kutir houses around 50 manuscripts and 2,300 books in 11 Indian classical languages, covering epics, philosophy, science, governance and the Constitution. Consequently, the initiative promotes cultural awareness and strengthens unity in diversity through language preservation.

2. PM SVANidhi Credit Card launched in Andhra Pradesh

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu launched the PM SVANidhi Credit Card scheme in Amaravati and distributed ₹206 crore in loans to street vendors. Conducted nationwide across Urban Local Bodies, the programme issued credit cards, distributed cheques, and honoured specially-abled vendors, thereby strengthening livelihoods, financial inclusion and urban self-employment sustainability.

3. India Energy Week 2026 to be held in Goa

Union Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister Hardeep Singh Puri announced that the 4th India Energy Week will take place in Goa from 27–30 January 2026. Over 75,000 participants, 600 exhibitors and ministers from 17 countries will attend. Thus, the event will advance dialogue on secure, sustainable and affordable global energy solutions.

4. All India Police Handball Cluster Competition concludes in Siliguri

The All India Police Handball Cluster 2025-26 concluded at SSB FTR Headquarters, Siliguri. Over 1,400 players from 80 teams representing State Police and Central Armed Forces participated. CISF and SSB emerged champions in men’s and women’s handball respectively. Cultural performances and Vande Mataram renditions marked the vibrant closing ceremony.

5. Dr Jitendra Singh highlights skill-centric growth at National Skill Summit

Union Minister Dr Jitendra Singh stated that India is witnessing historic democratisation of opportunities, enabling youth to convert skills into sustainable livelihoods. Addressing the National Skill Summit 2026, he emphasised the shift from degree-centric to skill-centric growth, citing initiatives like the Aroma Mission, which empower youth and women from tier-2 and tier-3 cities.

6. UAE and World Economic Forum extend Global Future Councils partnership

The UAE Government and the World Economic Forum signed an MoU in Davos to host Global Future Councils meetings in Dubai for five years.
