1. Nation Celebrates Samvidhan Diwas with Theme ‘Hamara Samvidhan–Hamara Swabhiman’. India celebrated Samvidhan Diwas with a national event at the Central Hall of Samvidhan Sadan. President Droupadi Murmu, Vice President C.P. Radhakrishnan, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and Members of Parliament attended the ceremony to reaffirm commitment to constitutional values.

2. PM Modi Leads 350th Martyrdom Anniversary Commemoration of Guru Tegh Bahadur.Prime Minister Narendra Modi led national commemorations in Kurukshetra to mark the 350th martyrdom anniversary of Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur. He released a commemorative stamp, special coin, and a coffee-table book honouring the Ninth Sikh Guru.

3. Punjab Declares Three Sikh Heritage Locations as Holy Cities. The Punjab Assembly unanimously declared Anandpur Sahib, Talwandi Sabo, and the Galiara area around the Golden Temple as holy cities. The resolution enforces a complete ban on liquor, tobacco, and meat in these regions.

4. Telugu Scholar Velamala Simmanna Wins 2025 Lok Nayak Foundation Award. Renowned Telugu scholar Velamala Simmanna, author of more than 100 books, was selected for the 2025 Lok Nayak Foundation Literary Award. The award carries ₹2 lakh and will be presented on 18 January 2026.

5. CSIR and ICMR Hold High-Level Meeting on Joint Health Research. CSIR and ICMR held a high-level meeting in New Delhi to strengthen their joint health research initiatives. The Science and Technology Ministry said both agencies discussed an integrated roadmap for future collaboration.

6. India Cancels Missile Test NOTAM Amid Chinese Vessel Activity. India cancelled a NOTAM for missile testing from the Andaman & Nicobar region after three Chinese research vessels were spotted in the Indian Ocean. Officials suspect these vessels were engaged in surveillance activities.

7. Assam Introduces Bill to Prohibit Polygamy. The Assam government introduced a bill to ban polygamy across the state. The bill proposes legal penalties, defines clear offences, and aims to protect women’s rights as part of broader personal law reform.

8. National Commission for Women Launches New Helpline 14490. The National Commission for Women launched a short, easy-to-remember 24×7 helpline number—14490. The toll-free number aims to provide quick assistance to women facing violence, harassment, or threats.

9. Report Says New Labour Codes Will Reduce Unemployment. A State Bank of India report said the new labour codes could reduce India’s unemployment rate by up to 1.3 percent. This could result in the creation of approximately 77 lakh new jobs.

10. IFFI 2025 Pays Tribute to Actor Dharmendra. The 56th International Film Festival of India in Goa paid a grand tribute to veteran actor Dharmendra. The sixth day featured global screenings, masterclasses, and the India premiere of Nigerian film My Father’s Shadow, competing for the Golden Peacock.

11. Legendary Danseuse and Child Star Kumari Kamala Passes Away at 91. Kumari Kamala, one of Indian cinema’s earliest child prodigies and a celebrated Bharatanatyam dancer, passed away in the United States at age 91. Her career spanned nearly nine decades and greatly shaped classical dance in films.

12. Indian Army to Commemorate Operation Pawan After 38 Years. For the first time in 38 years, the Indian Army will officially honour soldiers who died during Operation Pawan in Sri Lanka (1987–1990). The tribute acknowledges the sacrifices made during one of India’s most difficult foreign missions.

13. BEL–Safran Joint Venture to Produce HAMMER Munitions in India. Bharat Electronics Limited and Safran Electronics signed a 50-50 joint venture to manufacture HAMMER precision-guided munitions in India. The collaboration strengthens defence production and supports Atmanirbhar Bharat.

14. Flights Diverted Due to Volcanic Ash from Ethiopia’s Hayli Gubbi Volcano. Several Indian airlines suspended or diverted flights to West Asia after volcanic ash drifted across the Arabian Peninsula. DGCA instructed carriers to avoid the affected airspace to ensure passenger safety.

15. India Shines in Sports with Deaflympics Glory and Kabaddi Title. India won 16 medals in shooting at the Deaflympics in Tokyo, including seven golds. In Dhaka, India secured its second consecutive Women’s Kabaddi World Cup title by defeating Chinese Taipei. Additionally, Rohit Sharma was named brand ambassador for the ICC T20 World Cup 2026.
