1. Railway Renaming Honours Ahilyabai Holkar

The Ahmednagar Railway Station in Maharashtra has been officially renamed Ahilyanagar in honour of Lokmata Ahilyabai Holkar, the 18th-century Maratha queen famous for her just and welfare-oriented rule. The renaming seeks to highlight local heritage and inspire pride in historical figures of women’s leadership.

2. Gram Panchayats Lead in Digital Governance

At the 28th National Conference on e-Governance in Visakhapatnam, several Gram Panchayats received National e-Governance Awards 2025. The recognition celebrated grassroots innovations such as paperless offices, QR/UPI-based property tax payments, online issuance of birth/death certificates, real-time grievance redressal, and digital literacy campaigns at village level.

3. Why the Constitution Matters — New Book Launch

Former Chief Justice of India D.Y. Chandrachud launched his debut book Why the Constitution Matters (Penguin Random House). In the book, he argues that constitutional values — justice, equality, liberty, and human rights — actively shape everyday life in India and must be defended in practice, not just theory.

4. IndusInd Bank Appoints New CFO amid Reforms

In a major leadership change, IndusInd Bank appointed Viral Damania as its new Chief Financial Officer (effective 22 September 2025) amid a broader management overhaul.
This move comes in the wake of a large accounting loss related to derivative trades disclosed earlier this year, which triggered previous resignations. Damania brings over 27 years of financial and banking experience, having held senior roles at Bank of America and Citibank.

8. Ambitious ‘Daksha’ Mission and Space Security

Led by IIT Bombay, the Indian ‘Daksha’ mission aims to launch two satellites equipped with powerful space telescopes to survey a volume about five times that of NASA’s Fermi Gamma Ray Telescope.
Simultaneously, India is developing “bodyguard satellites” to protect its space assets, following incidents of close maneuvers by foreign satellites in low Earth orbit.

10. UNGA 80th Session & BBNJ Treaty

The 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) convened in New York, opening on 9 September and with high-level debates running from 23 September. Global conflicts in Gaza and Ukraine dominate diplomatic foregrounds.
Meanwhile, the BBNJ Treaty (Marine Biodiversity of Areas Beyond National Jurisdiction) has now secured the 60 ratifications needed to enter into force on 17 January 2026, aiming to protect marine life in international waters.

11. Chess & Sports Highlights

Grandmaster Divya Deshmukh, reigning FIDE Women’s World Cup champion, earned a wild card entry in the upcoming FIDE World Cup 2025 in Goa (starting 31 October).
In hockey, the Indian Junior Men’s Hockey Team was named for the Sultan of Johor Cup (Malaysia). Defender Rohit will captain the 18-member squad, which opens its campaign against Great Britain on 11 October.
Also, the Indian Air Force’s iconic MiG-21 jets will officially retire on 26 September after 60 years of service.
